Abstract
Jean Scott Creighton has published six mysteries under the pseudonym of J.S. Borthwick. The first, The Case of the Hook-Billed Kites, was published in 1982, when the author was 58. Her subsequent books include: The Down East Murders (1985), The Student Body (1986), Bodies of Water (1990), Dude on Arrival (1992), and The Bridled Groom (1994). All of the novels revolve around Sarah Deane, a teacher and graduate student of English literature as well as an amateur sleuth who stumbles over murder despite her best efforts to avoid it. Borthwick teams Sarah with Dr. Alex McKenzie, a staid and somewhat sardonic internist who balances Sarah's more emotional nature.
