Abstract

The article discusses the history of improvisational singers who performed at the Piazza San Martino in Florence, Italy during the 14th and 15th centuries. Topics discussed include the location of the piazza, the history of these singers in Florence prior to the late 14th century, and the poetry recited during events in the piazza.
